Your next trip to the movies may look a little different now that Cineplex's TimePlay has officially been cancelled.

The news came in the form of a statement on Cineplex's website.

The end of 2020 will see the final TimePlay game played at Cineplex Theatres.

TimePlay has provided Canadians with pre-show entertainment for years. Anyone who has ever played can relate to the excitement of seeing your name on the scoreboard.

According to Cineplex, 32 million games were played through TimePlay over the years and over 330 million SCENE points were awarded in the process.

"Over the past six years, our guest have shown us their love for Timeplay and we want to sincerely thank all of the dedicated fans for their support," wrote the company.

Cineplex has also expanded the options for movie-goers to redeem their SCENE points.

Instead of a free movie and snacks, you can now cash out your points in exchange for gift cards to a variety of stores.

Cineplex provided no reason for axing TimePlay, but the company has faced significant hardship over the course of the pandemic, with theatres all but shuttered for several months.
