Kamala Harris' Victory Speech Is An Inspiration For Women Everywhere

"I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last."
Contributor

Just hours after being named America's future vice president, Kamala Harris took to the stage in Delaware to address the nation and had a strong message for women.

Speaking at 8:30pm ET on  November 7, she thanked their campaign team, poll workers for counting every ballot, and the American voters who all turned out.

The speech was met with cheers, dancing, and countless car horns.

While I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last. Kamala Harris

"You chose hope and unity, decency, science, and yes, truth," Harris said. "You chose Joe Biden as the next president of the United States of America."

She then took time to shout out women from all walks of life, especially Black, Asian, Native American, and Latina women, for all their sacrifices.

Harris also acknowledged her mom, Shyamala Harris, who had immigrated to the U.S. from India at the age of just 19.

The family later moved to Montreal when Kamala was 12-years-old after her mother got a job working at the Jewish General Hospital doing research and teaching at McGill University.

Harris noted that her mother would be proud of the America they have worked to build now.

The vice president-elect then took a moment to say that while she is the first woman to ever hold this office, she will not be the last.
