The City of Toronto is over the moon after hitting what they call a "milestone" that saw every long-term care home in the city get their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Mayor John Tory announced the news on social media sharing his pride in what the city has accomplished ahead of the province of Ontario's deadline to complete the first round of vaccination.

Tory took to Instagram on Friday, January 15 to announce that 87 of the city's long-term care homes had received their vaccines well before the provincial deadline set for January 21.

"I’m proud that by working together with our hospital partners, @topublichealth and City staff we’ve been able to vaccinate the majority of residents and essential workers in long-term care homes across our city," he said.

The mayor of Ottawa, Jim Watson, took to Twitter to announce that the Canadian capital was also expecting all long-term care homes to have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by the end of Friday.

It's not yet clear if Ottawa has reached that goal.
