The incident occurred on Wednesday in the St. Clair West and Dufferin area.

According to CP24, a man was trying to park his car when he went over a curb and hit Mendoza, who was pushing a stroller.

Based on witness accounts, Toronto police Duty Insp. Michael Williams said in a media statement that she "sounds like a hero."

"She possibly pushed this stroller out of the way of the vehicle. When officers arrived on scene, the stroller was actually partially pinned between the vehicle and the wall," he said.

She reportedly became trapped under the vehicle and sustained life-threatening injuries, which she is now being treated for in hospital.

"Jillian is a Filipina nanny who came to Canada a few years ago. She is a single mom working hard to sustain her daughter's and parents' needs," wrote GoFundMe organizer Anney Anna Gonzales.

"She is also the sole provider of her family. It will be a long road to recovery and I hope that we can help support her financially and through prayers."

On Thursday, Gonzales wrote, "I am in contact with her family in Philippines and her relatives in B.C. All donations will go directly to Jillian's bank account."
