According to the GoFundMe page's creator, Dorothy Amelie Lily Kwan, the coyote chased the pair down the street before the little Yorkie turned around to confront it.

"My 10-year-old daughter was out walking our dog when a coyote chased them both down the street. My dog was trying to protect my daughter who was yelling and screaming and ended up getting attacked by this coyote on our neighbour's front yard," she wrote.

The whole thing was captured on video, which has since been posted to Youtube (but please be warned, the footage is graphic). The video shows the girl running down the street and you can hear her screams and Macy's yelps from afar.

According to Kwan, the pup received extensive injuries to her body and leg.

"She is undergoing surgery for her wounds at the emergency animal hospital. My heart is breaking for both my little one and our dog whom we rescued 5 years ago. I'm a single mom of two and my children and our dog mean everything to me," Kwan wrote.

Macy is now recovering in the ICU at the Toronto Veterinary Hospital, according to the page. The GoFundMe had raised $2,975 at the time of publication.
