A GoFundMe campaign for Toronto's most heroic Yorkshire terrier has surpassed its original goal.

The fundraiser for Macy, the Yorkie who defended her 10-year-old owner from a coyote attack, has raised over $19,000 as of Friday, July 23, surpassing the original goal of $10,000. The money raised is going to help Macy with her "extensive injuries" and recovery following her surgery.

Dorothy Amelie Lily Kwan, the GoFundMe organizer, wrote that Macy had suffered "extremely serious tissue injuries" to both her spine and her leg. Macy currently has about "40 staples holding her wounds [closed] and drainage tubes," she said, but the Yorkie's fever had begun to go down as of Friday and her appetite was starting to return.

"What an absolutely courageous dog. I am so very proud of her," Kwan wrote in the latest update. "No coyotes will want to mess with her when she comes home. My feisty girl is a true fighter. I love you so very much. You can do this!"

The brave pup has been resting in the intensive care unit at the Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Scarborough since the attack on Tuesday, July 20.

In the attack, Macy stopped her owner — a 10-year-old — from being attacked by a coyote in a Toronto suburb, eventually chasing the wild animal away.
