If you've been dreaming of sipping tequila and munching tacos in the tropics without dropping a fortune on airfare, you're in luck. Flair Airlines just announced new cheap flights that could put that margarita within much closer reach.

The Canadian budget airline is expanding its international offerings again, this time adding non-stop flights to Mexico City with starting fares under $120.

That's right — you can book a trip down south right now for less than what some folks spend on dinner.

According to Flair, new direct routes to Mexico City International Airport are launching from both Vancouver International and Toronto Pearson in October.

Flights from YVR are set to start at $141, and those from YYZ will kick off at $160.

Meanwhile, returning flights to Toronto and Vancouver from Mexico City are as low as $119, making a round trip from Vancouver just $260, and from Toronto as low as $279.

These cheap flights will run three times a week and, yes, they're already bookable on Flair's website. The lowest fares are still widely available in both directions on dates between October and April, which looks to be the planned seasonal window.

This move makes Flair the first Canadian low-cost carrier to offer direct flights to Mexico's capital, which the airline calls the country's "cultural, political and culinary hub."

While Flair touts it as groundbreaking, travellers should still read the fine print — flights are subject to government approval, and base fares usually don't include extras like bags or seat selection.

Still, for Canadians hunting for cheap flights from Toronto, YVR deals or just generally cheap flights to Mexico, this could be one of the best travel deals of the season.
