Jagmeet Singh & Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Raised $200K By Playing Video Games Together

They were super-sweet about one another, too!
Managing Editor, Canada

Could these two become BFFs? Jagmeet Singh and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez played video games against one another on Friday. The livestream resulted in $200,000 raised for charity and possibly a new-found friendship.

Earlier this week, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh challenged New York City Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) to play against him in the online multiplayer game Among Us.

During the livestream, the pair managed to raise $200,000 for a number of charitable initiatives, all of which aim to reduce food and housing insecurity in the U.S.

The duo also seem to have emerged from the session as friends, as both politicians had kind words for one another after the event.

Thank you for reminding us that another world is not only possible, but just a few hours' drive from NYC. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Tweeting on Saturday, AOC wrote, “Wonderful learning from you [Jagmeet Singh] - thank you for reminding us that another world is not only possible, but just a few hours’ drive from NYC.”

Singh responded to the sweet message by saying, “Thank you @AOC!”

The NDP leader added, “It was awesome chatting with you about how we can build a better world.”

While the Canadian politician spent plenty of time hyping up Canada during the livestream, he later admitted that “things aren't perfect” on this side of the border.

“But, together we can do better,” Singh said, adding, “My mom always taught me: When we lift each other up, we all rise.”

The purpose of the gaming session, according to Singh, was to connect with young people who have an interest in politics.

He told The Canadian Press that he shares progressive values with AOC, including when it comes to health care, economic equality, and climate change.

Step aside Trudeau and Obama, there could be a new political power friendship in town!
