Jagmeet Singh Says He's 'Appalled' After Justin Trudeau Voted Against Pharmacare

Now he wants to hear your thoughts.👇💭
Managing Editor, Canada

NDP leader Jagmeet Singh is calling out Justin Trudeau after the prime minister voted against a bill to establish framework for universal pharmacare in Canada.

Taking to Twitter on February 24, the same day that the Canada Pharmacare Act was tabled and defeated, Singh accused the Liberals of choosing “Big Pharma over Canadians again.”

Singh said that the Liberals’ promise had been broken for the 24th consecutive year, referring to promises made by the party back in 1997.

“Millions can't afford their medications, and we can help them - But, the Liberals blocked it,” Singh added.

He went on to describe feeling “appalled” by the situation.

In a follow-up tweet, Singh called on Canadians to share their stories with the NDP, saying, “Your stories matter - so [...] do your experiences.”

“If you'd like to share them with my team and I - Let's connect,” said the NDP leader, sharing a link to the party’s website.

The proposed legislation was tabled by an NDP MP and was defeated by a vote of 295-32.

Officials from the Conservatives, Bloc Québécois and the Liberals voted against the bill.
