Costco is known for having prices that are cheaper than grocery stores in Canada.

But you might not know that you can even save money by shopping for Kirkland Signature products instead of name-brands at the wholesale retailer.

Kirkland is Costco's house brand — just like Great Value at Walmart and No Name at Loblaws stores.

Items with the wholesale retailer's private label are dupes of name-brand products you can get at lower prices, not just compared to grocery stores but also compared to name brands at Costco!

When you want to get cheap groceries, here are just a few of the Kirkland Signature products to look for at Costco Canada that are less expensive than name-brand items.

Whole bean coffee

Costco has name-brand coffee from Starbucks, Lavazza, Balzac's, McDonald's and Tim Hortons.

But the wholesale retailer also has its own house-brand coffee that's so much cheaper.

Name-brand whole bean Starbucks Cafe Verona coffee costs $25.99 for a 1.13-kilogram bag.

That price breaks down to $2.30 per 100 grams.

You can get a 1.13-kilogram bag of whole bean Kirkland Signature house blend coffee for $20.99 at Costco.

That works out to $1.85 per 100 grams.

So, you can save $5 by getting the Kirkland coffee instead of the name-brand product!

Cream cheese

It costs $13.49 for a pack of two 500-gram bricks of Philadelphia cream cheese at Costco.

That price breaks down to $6.74 per cream cheese and $1.34 per 100 grams.

Kirkland Signature cream cheese costs $9.79 for a pack of four 250-gram bricks.

That works out to a cost of $2.44 per cream cheese and $0.97 per 100 grams.

Each pack — Philadelphia and Kirkland — gets you one kilogram of cream cheese, but the price tag for the Kirkland cream cheese is so much lower.

You can save $3.70 if you get the Kirkland item instead of the name-brand product at Costco.

Ice cream bars

Costco has Häagen-Dazs vanilla almond ice cream packs with nine 88-millilitre ice cream bars for $14.99.

That works out to $1.66 per ice cream bar and $1.89 per 100 millilitres.

Costco's Kirkland Signature vanilla almond ice cream packs come with 18 bars that are 91 millilitres each. The price is $16.99.

While you might think at first glance that Häagen-Dazs is cheaper because the price tag is lower, that's not actually the case.

The Kirkland Signature pack has more ice cream bars and each bar is bigger than the Häagen-Dazs ones.

So, it works out to a cost of just $0.94 per bar and $1.03 per 100 millilitres for the Kirkland ice cream bars.

Hazelnut spread

Kirkland Signature hazelnut spread costs $12.99 for a pack of two jars that are one kilogram each.

That's $6.49 per jar and $0.64 per 100 grams.

If you don't care about buying name-brand, you can save $3 by getting the Kirkland hazelnut spread instead of Nutella.

That price works out to $0.60 per pouch and $1.45 per 100 grams.

Kirkland Signature mini chocolate chip cookies cost $17.99 for an 850-gram box that comes with 30 pouches.

That's a cost breakdown of $0.59 per pouch and $2.11 per 100 grams.

If you want bigger-sized cookies, the Pillsbury box is cheaper, but if you want more pouches of cookies, then the Kirkland Signature box is cheaper.

It costs $16.99 for a pack of eight 184-gram cans of Kirkland Signature solid tuna.

That works out to $2.12 per can and $1.15 per 100 grams.

So, not only is the price tag cheaper for the Kirkland product, but you also get more cans and it costs almost $1 less per can compared to the name-brand!

Scented laundry beads

Lisa Belmonte | Narcity

It costs $24.99 for a 1.13-kilogram bottle of Downy light-scented laundry beads at Costco.

That works out to $2.21 per 100 grams or $22.11 per kilogram.

You can get a 1.30-kilogram bottle of Kirkland Signature fresh-scented laundry beads for $20.99 at Costco.

That price breaks down to just $1.61 per 100 grams and $16.14 per kilogram.

Not only is the Costco Kirkland product cheaper — by $4, to be exact — but you also get more of it — about 17 grams —compared to the Downy product.

These prices are confirmed at the time of publishing, but they can change at any time. Taxes and fees may not be included.
