"Ongoing dissatisfaction" was part of the reason cited.

Loblaws is still facing backlash despite the grocer recently announcing they will sign Canada's Grocery Code of Conduct.

On Tuesday, May 21, the Reddit group r/loblawsisoutofcontrol announced that they'd maintain their boycott of Loblaws indefinitely instead of ending it at the end of May, which was their initial intention.

"Following a recent poll, a majority of the community expressed their support for continuing the boycott against Loblaw, citing ongoing dissatisfaction with the skyrocketing cost of groceries," said the forum moderators.

"Over the coming months, the boycott organizers will focus on empowering consumers through education on key topics and engaging in advocacy efforts to garner political attention and raise awareness via social media challenges," they continued. "Additionally, we will be working to educate our members and help them better understand the regulatory regimes which allow Loblaw to operate in this manner."

Last week, Loblaw Companies Limited's President and CEO Per Bank released a statement regarding the company's agreement to sign the Code which is meant to promote predictability, transparency, and fair dealing between supplies, grocery stores and consumers in the country.

"We have worked intensively and collaboratively with industry groups so that the Code is clearly drafted and fair for all industry participants," said Bank. "We believe in the value of a code of conduct for the industry and are happy with the progress made. The Code now requires the participation of all major retailers and suppliers to help bring in a new era for Canada’s grocery industry, enhancing the relationship between retailers and suppliers, who both exist to best serve customers."

The Reddit group that promoted the boycott of Loblaws has now set their aim at Walmart Canada by creating a petition calling on the company to sign the Grocer Code of Conduct.

"With Loblaw's recent agreement to sign the Grocer Code of Conduct, Walmart stands as the final holdout among major grocery retailers in Canada," says the petition. "The Grocer Code of Conduct is a crucial step towards a more fair and competitive grocery industry in Canada."
