The winning numbers for Wednesday, September 1, were 3, 4, 14, 18, 19 and 42. The bonus ball is 43.

The EXTRA code is 3908546. This $250,000 prize was won in Calgary.

The guaranteed $1 million prize code is 43896058-01. This was won in Ontario.

Nobody won the $5 million jackpot, which now carries over to the next draw, but someone in B.C. did win $185,184.10 for matching five numbers and the bonus ball.

How does the Lotto 6/49 work?

For a chance of winning the draw, you need to pick the correct six numbers and bonus ball. The results are announced at 10:30 p.m. ET on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

For $3, you receive one six-number selection and one unique 10-digit Guaranteed Prize Draw selection. For matching two correct main winning numbers, you are re-entered into the next draw for free.

There is also a guaranteed $1 million prize to be won on each draw. In addition, players can add Wednesday or Saturday's EXTRA option for a chance to win the $250,000 top prize or the $100,000 second prize.

The winning numbers are drawn by the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation using a Smartplay Halogen II ball machine.
