Canada is full of hidden gems, and this majestic Ontario island is a local favourite. It's a magical spot to explore with turquoise waters, white sand shores, and natural wonders.

In a recent post on Narcity Canada's Facebook page, we asked readers for their favourite hidden gems in Canada that tourists might not know about. People shared destinations across the country, and this dreamy island was one of the spots mentioned.

Manitoulin Island is situated on the sparkling waters of Lake Huron. At 2765 square kilometres, it's the world's largest freshwater island and is home to a range of attractions and things to do.

With sparkling lakes, cascading waterfalls, stretching sand beaches and scenic hikes, it's a little slice of summer paradise right here in Ontario.

During your visit, you can lounge on Providence Bay Beach, where you'll find soft sand shores and turquoise waves. You can also soak up some towering island views along the Cup & Saucer Trail, which takes you to a breathtaking lookout point.

Bridal Veil Falls is another beautiful destination to explore. The cascade tumbles into an enchanting pool, and you can even take a dip in the waters.

Other highlights of the island include the East Bluff Lookout, Misery Bay Provincial Nature Reserve and Manitowaning Lighthouse.

Manitoulin Island is accessible by both ferry and car. You can drive across the Little Current Swing Bridge from Sudbury or take the Chi-Cheemaun Ferry from Tobermory.

The ferry runs seasonally. Reservations for the 2025 season will open in March, and daily trips will commence in May.

If you're looking for a magical hidden gem to explore in Ontario, this freshwater island might be worth a trip.
