If you're looking for an incredible summer getaway that doesn't involve long flights or pricey plane tickets, this enchanting Ontario island might be worth a visit.

Accessible by both car and ferry, it's the "largest freshwater island in the world" and offers sandy shores, breathtaking hikes and more.

You can catch the ferry from a turquoise-water beach town and enjoy the views as you travel to this magical summer destination. While on board, you can dig into food, drinks and explore a floating art gallery.

The Ms Chi-Cheemaun is a passenger and vehicle ferry that travels between Tobermory and Manitoulin Island. Known as the "Big Canoe," the ferry is home to a cafeteria, art gallery, store, live entertainment and more.

You can board the ferry in the charming harbour town of Tobermory and enjoy a two-hour journey across Georgian Bay to Manitoulin Island, the "largest freshwater island in the world" at 2765 square kilometres, according to the website.

The Chi-Cheemaun offers vehicle transportation so you can bring your car, RV or bicycle along with you.

During the trip, you can dig into meals like burgers and pancakes, and enjoy the scenery from a Muskoka chair on the Upper Deck.

The Chi-Cheemaun stops at Manitoulin Island's South Baymouth terminal. There's lots to do and explore while on the island.

You can lounge on the sandy shores of Providence Bay Beach and take a dip in the shimmering waters or hike your way to towering views along the Cup and Saucer Trail.

You'll also want to check out Bridal Veil Falls, an enchanting cascade with a turquoise pool where you can go for a swim.

There are many inns, hotels and more where you can book an overnight stay on the island.

The Chi-Cheemaun runs daily until October 20, 2024. You can also drive to the island by crossing the Little Current Swing Bridge from Sudbury.
