Canada has a colourful new coin, and you don't have to look for it in your change.

That's because you can trade in your old coins and bills to get this circulation toonie!

The Royal Canadian Mint is hosting coin exchanges in cities across Canada for commemorative circulation coins, including the new $2 coin honouring Daphne Odjig.

It features Odjig's 1977 artwork "The Folk Singer" with blue, yellow and orange colour enhancements.

You can also get the $1 coin celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Supreme Court of Canada, which was released earlier this year.

The loonie features an engraving of the exterior façade of the Supreme Court building in Ottawa.

It also includes the 150th anniversary logo, a dark blue circle with the inscription "150" that has a white laurel branch stemming from it.

These coin exchanges are happening in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.

Coin exchanges are cash-only transactions, and any Canadian circulation coin or banknote denomination is acceptable.

So, you can get the new Canadian coins, while supplies last, by trading in your coins and bills.

These are equivalent cash exchanges, which means you must have $2 worth of loonies, quarters, dimes, and so on to be able to get a toonie.

Since quantities of these commemorative circulation coins are limited, each person will only be allowed to exchange for a certain number of coins.

There is no admission charge to participate in the Mint's coin exchange events.

These are the coin exchanges in Alberta:

  • September 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Canada Post office in the Shoppers Drug Mart at 356-100 Anderson Road SE in Calgary
  • September 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Canada Post office at 1-801 8 Street in Canmore

In Saskatchewan, this is the coin exchange for the Daphne Odjig toonie and the Supreme Court of Canada loonie:

  • September 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Canada Post office in the Shoppers Drug Mart at 4130 Albert Street in Regina

In Manitoba, here's when and where you can exchange your coins and bills for the new toonie:

  • October 16 to October 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Royal Canadian Mint boutique at 520 Lagimodiere Boulevard in Winnipeg

These are the Royal Canadian Mint coin exchanges happening in Ontario:

  • September 26 to September 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Canada Gold in The Centre on Barton at 1241 Barton Street East in Hamilton
  • October from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Canada Post office in the Rexall at 666 Woolwich Street in Guelph
  • October 17 to October 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Royal Canadian Mint boutique at 320 Sussex Drive in Ottawa
  • October 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Canada Post office in the Rexall at 6-900 Greenbank Road in Ottawa

The Mint hasn't announced if these will be the only coin exchanges that include the new Daphne Odjig toonie or if more events in other cities will also happen.
