They wasting any time! The Air Canada COVID-19 tests that are being ordered by the thousands were just approved by Health Canada and give results in just minutes.

The Canadian airline announced that they are finalizing an initial order of Abbott's ID NOW rapid response tests.

That's because they believe testing can help protect passengers and workers while allowing government travel restrictions to be safely relaxed.

COVID-19 tests that Air Canada is ordering

Air Canada is going to be purchasing 25,000 rapid test kits from Abbott to test employees voluntarily now that the technology has been approved for use in Canada.

Results can be ready in as little as 15 minutes.

This is just an initial order so more tests could be bought in the future.

The airline said that this is a key aspect of protecting people until a vaccine is available.

They also believe that a shorter, test-based strategy might be an alternative to the 14-day quarantine rule that Canada has in place right now.

A day before this, Health Canada approved Abbott's ID NOW nasal swab test.

Canada has already signed an agreement with the maker of the test for up to 7.9 million of them.
