Cineplex Is Reportedly Begging Ontario To Let More Than 50 People Into Theatres
Ontario's restrictions make it impossible for Cineplex to turn a profit.
Businesses are struggling to adjust to the province's reopening rules, and Ontario's Cineplex movie theatres are no exception.
The theatre chain's COO has made a desperate plea to Ford's government to allow more than 50 movie-goers in at one time, reports Canadian Press via CP24.
Cineplex argues that such a restriction would be devastating to their business.
Unless we can get 50 people per auditorium, we'd be operating at a loss. We need that capacity in order to allow us to, at least, be profitable."
Dan McGrath, Chief Operating Officer at Cineplex
Most oflast week, which permits movie theatres to reopen so long as no more than 50 people fill the seats.
Cineplex has reopened in other Canadian provinces already. Tickets sold for only $5 atback in June.
Cineplex had previously attempted to reopen, before suspending that date until they got the green light from health authorities.
