Ontarians, it's finally here! In a press conference on Friday, Doug Ford announced that Ontario's COVID Alert app is ready for download.

In fact, the premier is now asking everyone to have it installed before the long weekend.

Ahead of this long weekend, it's important for folks to download COVID Alert and please keep following the public health advice.

Ford states that the new program is an important step to stop the spread of the disease.

"So please, everyone, please download the app and help do your part," Ford stated in the conference.

The premier also hinted at how important it is to maintain physical distancing over the long weekend, by reflecting on the high number of cases in the United States.

"We've seen what happens if we don't listen to advice. A month ago, our neighbours in the US were heading into the July 4 long weekend."

"People went to parties, beaches and gatherings, acting like COVID-19 was over. You just have to look at what happened since then to know how devastating it has been."

The app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play, will notify you if you've come in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
