One furry creature has officially become the first Ontario dog to test positive for COVID-19 in Canada.

The Niagara-area pooch, who has shown no symptoms, became infected with the disease following an outbreak amongst its humans, according to an Ontario press release.

However, this little dog is said to be just fine.

The current understanding of COVID-19 is that the overall risk of infection and illness in most domestic animals is low.

Currently, it is believed that dogs are at low risk of becoming infected or passing the disease on to others.

However, Ontario reveals that they are still trying to understand exactly how COVID-19 affects other species.

"There is still uncertainty about what these infections mean in animals and how this virus behaves in various animal species," reads the release.

The Office of the Chief Veterinarian for Ontario is still advising residents to keep the same physical distance from pups as they do humans.

They are also telling you to keep your dog in self-isolation with you if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.
