The 1000 Islands is a picturesque region located along the border between northern New York State and southeastern Ontario. According to the website, it's a "sightseer's paradise" and is home to over 1800 islands.

1000 Islands Tourism calls this spot "one of the best fall getaways in Ontario" and you can enjoy stunning colours, autumn experiences and more.

You can even enjoy that last bit of warm weather here. According to Visit 1000 Islands, "the sun's rays warm the St. Lawrence River and Lake Ontario all summer, leading to warmer-than-you-expect fall temperatures perfect for that quick getaway vacation."

You can also experience a "mirrored, double-foliage effect in September and October" when the brightly-coloured trees are reflected in the crystal waters of the St. Lawrence.

There is so much to do during the fall, and one of the most beautiful ways to see the transforming landscape is a cruise. There area number of cruise companies that take you around the islands and past landmarks such as Bolt Castle.

You can also visit some of the charming villages and historic cities throughout the area such as Gananoque and Kingston, where you'll find delicious eateries, local attractions and more.
