Ontarians can now get huge discounts on groceries thanks to this Food Basics hack
Do you like a good bargain?

Ontarians can now get huge discounts on groceries at Food Basics.
If you've ever felt uneasy about how much food goes to waste, whether it's from your own fridge or the store shelf, you're not alone.
The good news? Food Basics is now teaming up with the popular app Too Good To Go to help tackle food waste across Ontario.
For those unfamiliar, Too Good To Go is a platform that connects shoppers with local businesses offering surprise bags filled with surplus food that's still safe to eat but nearing its best-before date — and it comes at a steep discount.
Food Basics is officially on board, with all 148 locations across Ontario now listed on the app.
Here's how it works: Food Basics stores pack up assorted "surprise bags" in four categories. You could score meat and seafood valued around $30 for just $9.99, or pick up baked goods, dairy, or deli items for $5.99 — each with an estimated retail value of about $18.
The catch? You won’t know exactly what’s inside until you pick it up — hence the surprise.Food Basics is the latest Metro Inc.-owned chain to join the app, following the lead of Metro Ontario, Metro Quebec, and Super C. According to Too Good To Go, these partnerships have already helped divert over 1 million meals from landfills.
Since launching in Canada in July 2021, Too Good To Go has grown rapidly. The platform now partners with more than 16,000 food-selling businesses across the country and has helped rescue over 10 million meals from going to waste.
That effort has also had an environmental impact — the company estimates that the program has prevented more than 25 million kilograms of CO₂e emissions, equivalent to taking thousands of cars off the road for a year.
So, not only are you scoring a deal — you're also doing your part for the planet!
