This Ontario hiking spot has hidden ruins and a spiral staircase leading to crystal waters

It's a dreamy spot to explore.

Lead Writer, Travel

Ontario is home to some stunning hiking spots, and this trail is one of the most enchanting, complete with scenic views, hidden gems, and crystal waters.

Spirit Rock Conservation Area is a picturesque oasis located just outside the small town of Wiarton. It's home to 5 kilometres of hiking trails as well as ruins and a secret staircase, making it a unique spot for a hike.

One of the highlights of the area is the Corran ruins, once a 17-room mansion filled with intricate carvings, antique weapons, tapestries, and an extensive collection of books.

The estate was founded by Alexander McNeill, an immigrant from Northern Ireland who became the Federal Member of Parliament for the North Bruce Riding after moving to Ontario during the 1800s.

Following McNeill's death, the estate experienced vandalism and was eventually destroyed by a fire. You can still see the stone shell of what was once a majestic mansion.

Once you've passed the ruins, you'll find the hidden spiral staircase, which leads down a rocky cliff to the crystal blue shores of Colpoy's Bay. The turquoise waves look almost tropical, and several scenic lookout points nearby offer breathtaking views from above.

With crystal waters, hidden ruins and more, this conservation area is a stunning spot to explore.
