A group of Ontario students just got a big reality check after a weekend of partying at a cottage in Quebec's Laurentians region near Mont-Tremblant.

Sûreté du Québec Sergeant Mark Tessier confirmed to Narcity that all 11 individuals could be fined several thousand dollars for violating gathering rules in the region.

$6,000 Maximum fine per student

On Sunday night, Sûreté du Québec officers visited the property after receiving a tip about the gathering.

"We went there, we saw five vehicles in the driveway. We proceeded to investigate and when we went into the cottage we found 11 people inside," said Tessier.

All those involved are residents of Ontario, the police force confirms.

The Laurentian region in Quebec is currently in the red zone, meaning that residents within this region are not allowed to gather with anyone outside of their home.

Ultimately, the fines will be decided by the Crown, says Sgt. Tessier.

"Justice is going to take its course regarding what fines these people are going to receive."
