We may still be in the depths of winter, but the weather in Ontario is going to be unseasonably warm with temps hitting surprising highs this week.

According to The Weather Network, all of the province will experience "an extreme February thaw," and one area in particular will see temperatures up to 25 C above normal.

"Over the next couple of days, a mild air mass that was situated over the Prairies continues to topple over Ontario, with a southerly flow pulling warmer air in from the southern U.S," says TWN.

This will cause temperatures over northern Ontario to seasonally average above 15 C for this week and can hit extremes as high as 20-25 degrees above normal.

"So far we’ve been talking about temperature anomalies in general, but the warmth is even more pronounced through the overnight hours," says the weather agency. "Temperatures will be 25°C above typical values."

If you're looking to enjoy the unusually warm weather, the end of the work week is the best time to get your sunglasses out.

"The warmest day of the week for southern Ontario is forecast on Friday, where some communities will be looking at double-digit warmth," says TWN, which is temperatures we expect more for April and May.

According to Wiarton Willie, we should be experiencing an early spring, but surely the famous groundhog didn't mean this early!
