A new forecast has revealed that Ontario's weather is warming up this week but snow is on the way too.

While southern parts of the province will get temperatures above 0 C for a few days, winter weather will be back before the weekend.

The Weather Network said that gusty winds will help bring above-seasonal temperatures across southern Ontario on Monday, February 24, and Tuesday, February 25.

Monday and Tuesday could be the warmest days of the year so far, with Toronto's weather forecast calling for 5 C and 4 C on those days!

Temperatures on Monday and Tuesday are expected to be:

  • 4 C and 5 C in Brampton
  • 4 C and 5 C in Mississauga
  • 5 C and 4 C in Markham
  • 5 C and 4 C in Vaughan
  • 3 C and 4 C in Pickering
  • 5 C and 4 C in Hamilton
  • 6 C and 4 C in Niagara Falls
  • 3 C and 5 C in Windsor

There will also be strong winds on Monday, with gusts between 70 and 90 km/h through the afternoon.

According to The Weather Network, the gustiest winds are expected near Barrie and Georgian Bay. There is a risk of power outages in those areas.

On Tuesday, parts of southern Ontario have a chance of rain.

But even if it doesn't rain where you are, the mild temperatures are likely to cause snow piles to start melting.

Then, a low-pressure system will move across southwestern Ontario in the afternoon on Wednesday, February 26. It's expected to reach the GTA by the evening.

Places in the southwest, across the shores of Lake Erie and through to the Niagara region are set to get rainfall.

That includes Windsor, Sarnia, London, Hamilton and Niagara Falls.

Places north of that are set to get five to 10 cm of "wet, heavy snow."

The GTA is on the rain and snow line so there's a higher risk of mixing.

According to The Weather Network, precipitation will likely start as snow and change over to rain in Toronto and along the Lake Ontario shoreline early on Thursday, February 27.

This weather system will move east and reach Ottawa on Thursday morning, bringing five to 10 cm of snow.

Colder temperatures are expected to return to Ontario this weekend and wintry weather should continue through the first two weeks of March.

So, don't put away the shovels, boots and jackets just yet!
