Hail could strike parts of Ontario today as the province braces for a severe thunderstorm

There will be more rain later in the week, too! 🌧️

The weather in Ontario was decidedly spring-like over the weekend, but the nice temperatures and sunshine aren't going to be sticking around for the week.

Parts of the province are in for some wild weather today as severe thunderstorms and even hail pelt down from the sky.

"Recent sunshine and warmer temperatures have helped to create some instability, setting the stage for thunderstorm development as a cold front passes through later Tuesday," says TWN of the weather for southern Ontario.

The rain could be heavy enough that there may be power outages, so make sure you have emergency measures on standby.

"The threat for severe storms are likely east of Georgian Bay, from Parry Sound to Barrie, and into southwestern Ontario through the mid-afternoon and early evening hours," warns TWN. "Damaging winds, heavy rain, and small hail will be the main risks if storms develop."

The rainy conditions will hit the GTA just in time for the evening commute and will continue on late until the evening before the system moves on.

"Wind shear, a key ingredient of severe storms is present, and therefore could bring the risk for rotating storms, as well," says TWN. "Be sure to stay on top of the alerts in your area if thunderstorms do develop."

Unfortunately, that's not the last of the precipitation for the week — soaking rains are expected to hit on Friday and bring with it the risk of localized flooding.

Stay safe!
