This means the Kanata mall will now be open on New Year's Day, Family Day, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Labour Day and Thanksgiving.

People representing the mall say the change will help boost business, as many shoppers have attempted to visit on stat holidays and found the stores to be closed.

However, there was some opposition to the plan at council. Critics argued that the move would deprive employees of time-off on holidays and would put them at a higher risk of getting COVID-19.
