Recalls in Canada: Melting air fryers sold at Best Buy and blinds that pose a choking risk

Health Canada has issued recalls for window blinds and several air fryerssold at Best Buy.
The health department says the air fryers could overheat and melt and the blinds pose a choking hazard.
Here are the details of the latest recalls and what you should do if you have the affected items.
Insignia Air Fryers
Health Canada has recalled several Insignia Air Fryers sold at Best Buy and urges people to stop using the air fryers immediately.
The health authority says the air fryers could overheat and the handles may "melt or break, posing a potential fire or burn hazard."
"In addition, the air fryer ovens may overheat and glass on doors may break, posing a potential fire, burn or laceration hazard," the recall reads.
The recalled air fryers include:
- Insignia 5L/5.28Qt Digital Air Fryer - Black
- Insignia 10 QT Digital Air Fryer Oven – Stainless Steel
- Insignia 3.4 QT. Analog Air Fryer - Black
- Insignia 5QT Analog Air Fryer - Stainless Steel
- Insignia 8 QT Digital Dual Basket Air Fryer - Black
As of February 20, Health Canada says it's received six reports of incidents of the handles on the air fryers melting or breaking and one report of the glass breaking on one of the recalled air fryer ovens in Canada.
There have been no reports of injuries to date.
In the U.S., there have been 24 reports of overheating/melting or glass shattering, including six reports of the air fryers catching fire.
Health Canada says anyone who owns one of the recalled air fryers should unplug it immediately and stop using it. Consumers can register online at https://www.recallrtr.com/airfryer or call Best Buy Canada.
Anyone who has a receipt will receive a Best Buy gift card equal to the full price paid for the product.
Customers who do not have a receipt will be entitled to a $75 gift card.
Window blinds
Health Canada has also recalled various shades by Elite Window Fashions over strangulation and choking hazards for kids.
The health authority says the recall includes the following items that were sold in a wide range of custom colours and sizes:
- All Roller Shades
- High-Lite Shades
- Sheer Horizontal Shades
- Roman Shades sold with ChainGuards and P-Clips
The recalled roller shades do not meet the Corded Window Coverings Regulations.
"Young children may pull looped chain around their neck, causing a strangulation hazard and even death. In addition, the products can also release small parts that present a choking hazard to young children," the recall reads.
The company reports over 85,000 units of the affected products were sold in Canada from July 2022 to March 2024.
As of March 5, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.
Health Canada recommends customers stop using the blinds and contact Elite Window Fashions for replacement parts.
These items aren't the only recalls in Canada this week.
Health Canada has also issued recalls for several food items, including mushrooms and chocolate.
