Durham Region is a quaint destination located about an hour from Toronto.

It's been dubbed the "Apple Capital of Canada," and with its lush orchards, cideries and more, it's no surprise.

According to Invest Durham, the Durham Region "produces 13 per cent of Ontario's apples with 2,100 acres in production." The area is perfectly positioned for growing top-quality apples, thanks to the warming influence of Lake Ontario.

Autumn is the ideal time to explore the region, when the orchards are ripe with fruit and the vibrant fall colours blanket the countryside.

It's a beautiful spot for a day trip, offering quaint villages, farm markets, orchards, and more.

If you're feeling festive, you can embark on an Apple Adventure throughout the Durham Region, inspired by the Apple Capital of Canada.

The journey takes you to some of the cideries, wineries, orchards and bakeries throughout the area.

You can sip boozy drinks at spots like Applewood Farm Winery and Two Blokes Cider, pick your own apples at Archibald's Orchards & Winery and Brooks Farms, and indulge in delicious treats at Hank's Pastries and Tyrone Mills.

The region is home to some cozy farms, such as Pingle's Farm Market, where you can enjoy a Harvest Festival complete with wagon rides, a pumpkin patch, a corn maze, animals, treats like cider donuts, and more.

You can also visit some storybook villages, such as Port Perry, that will make you feel like you've stepped into an autumn Hallmark film.
