Here are the baggage fees for Toronto Pearson's major airlines, from Air Canada to WestJet

Air Canada is introducing carry-on fees for some passengers from January.✈️

If you've ever travelled out of Toronto Pearson Airport, you'll know the struggle of navigating airline baggage policies. Each carrier has its own set of rules, and the prices can vary so much it feels impossible to keep up. From weight limits to size restrictions and those sneaky extra fees, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the fine print.

And now, things just got even more complicated—Air Canada recently announced that carry-on bags will come with an added fee on certain flights. With so many rule changes and inconsistencies between airlines, figuring it all out can quickly turn into a massive headache.

Generally, airlines let you bring three kinds of luggage on board:

  1. A personal item — A small bag that fits under the seat in front of you, like a purse, backpack, or laptop bag.
  2. A carry-on bag — This is the standard suitcase that fits in the overhead bin.
  3. Checked luggage — These are the larger bags you drop off at check-in to be stored in the plane's cargo hold.

Sounds straightforward, right? However, the fees associated with them are anything but. Some flights include baggage in your ticket price, while others don't. And, if you're not careful, those extra fees can add up fast. It's better to check the details in advance than to get hit with surprise charges at the airport.

To help make things easier, we've broken down the baggage rules for some of the biggest airlines flying out of Toronto Pearson. This breakdown focuses on economy class and, where relevant, the most basic fare options.
