Two new websites are helping residents of the GTA book their COVID-19 vaccine appointments quickly and efficiently.

The sites pull real-time data from Peel Region and Toronto Public Health's online booking system to identify available appointments, with updates every 10 minutes and notifications for new time slots; one website is for Peel Region only, the other site is for the rest of the GTA.

Narcity spoke to Andrew Hunt, a 28-year-old software engineer in Mississauga who helps run the Peel region site alongside a team of volunteers by reverse-engineering the regions' online booking portals.

"I've had a bunch of people message me [...] as well as shout me out for helping them get booked. It's very clear to me that having websites like this helps people find a place to book their vaccine appointment," said Hunt.

"I think everyone should have a chance to book an appointment, and it shouldn't just be based on looking at the right place at the right time," he continued. "Unfortunately that's not the case yet, but as we make more progress with systems like this, and increase awareness about them that should hopefully improve."

This initiative is not unlike Vaccine Hunters Canada, a Twitter account run by Canadian volunteers that provides immediate and accessible information about booking vaccine appointments all over the country.
