The opening of Toronto's new chicken joint over the weekend saw massive lineups that ran down the street.

Dave's Hot Chicken officially opened its first Canadian location in the city on January 15, and people across Toronto waited in huge lines to try it.

The iconic American restaurant is known for its Nashville hot chicken and insane spice levels.

The opening came just as the province entered a stricter lockdown with a stay-at-home order.

Photos and videos taken over the weekend show huge crowds outside the venue, with one Instagram video revealing a lineup disappearing down the street.

The lineups sparked some concern about health and safety, with many people taking to Twitter to express their thoughts.

"...I was walking to Lees variety around 8 and literally had to walk on the road to avoid this mainly maskless crowd..." one user posted.

Dave's Hot Chicken informed Narcity that it had "a number of health measures in place to keep both [its] customers and staff safe."

The measures included designated spots for entering and exiting, mandatory masks, and staff managing doors.
