Ford Calls Emergency Meeting With Hospital Leaders To Break Ontario's Surge In Cases

As Ontario continues to report record-breaking COVID-19 cases, Doug Ford has decided to call an emergency meeting this afternoon to address the issue.

The premier made the announcement early Friday morning on Twitter.

He will be meeting with Health Minister Christine Elliot and Ontario's hospital leaders about solutions to the concerning trends.

In a letter released Thursday, the Ontario Hospital Association called on the province to lock down any public health region with a positivity rate of over 40/100,000.

Ontario hospitals are reportedly being asked to prepare more hospital bed rental Caledon for a spike in COVID-19 patients.

The OHA hopes widespread lockdowns will help combat the "devastating surge" to come.

"We are now in the holiday season and if members of the public choose to ignore public health measures and gather outside their households, the consequences risk overwhelming Ontario's hospitals," wrote the OHA.

On Thursday, Ontario reported 2,432 new cases, its highest increase to date.
