Ford Is Ready To Scrap The 14-Day Travel Quarantine & Make Testing The Same As Alberta

He wants to bring Alberta's model to Ontario.

Travelling may get a little easier. Doug Ford is planning to ditch a COVID-19 travel rule.

In a press conference on Wednesday, the premier declared his intention to scrap the 14-day quarantine enforced upon travellers returning through Pearson airport.

In fact, the province is looking to adopt similar testing methods as Alberta.

We're working with the federal government and Toronto Pearson to reduce the downtime once you come back. Doug Ford

"You have to quarantine for 14 days. We want to knock that down, similar to what they are doing in Alberta," Ford stated on Wednesday.

An Alberta pilot program is currently testing eligible international travellers after they deplane at certain airports.*

Participants are able to quarantine for less time if their tests come back negative.

"I'm really pushing it. If you can land, and you get tested right away, and then you get tested five to seven days later and they both come back negative tests, you should be able to go on your way," Ford added.

Ford also hunkered down on the idea that the federal government needs to force airports to do more, including temperature checks, when passengers deplane.
