Ontario's premier had some strong words for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday.

As Doug Ford spoke to reporters, he warned the PM to stay out of matters that fall under provincial jurisdiction.

"We don’t need the nanny state telling us what to do. We understand our provinces," he said.

He went on to say that if Trudeau oversteps his boundaries, there will be a problem.

He’d have a kickback like he’s never seen from not just me, from every single premier, that just wouldn’t fly. Premier Doug Ford

Ford is referring to the prime minister's ability to enact federal emergency legislation, allowing him to mandate restrictions and closures within provinces.

The last time such sweeping measures were taken was by the elder Trudeau, Pierre.

He implemented the War Measures Act when the Front de libération du Québec (FLQ) kidnapped provincial cabinet minister Pierre Laporte and British diplomat James Cross.

When asked how far Pierre Trudeau would go to set the situation straight, he responded, "Just watch me" — a line that would go down in history.

Whether Justin Trudeau will deliver the same confidence in his powers in the coming months — only time will tell.
