Toronto Councillor Says 'Coward' Ford Has 'Completely Bungled' Pandemic Response

He didn't pull any punches in a late-night Twitter rant.

Toronto City Councillor Gord Perks had some seriously strong words for Doug Ford late Wednesday night on Twitter.

Perks called Doug Ford a "coward" after the premier's office reportedly dodged a question about a Toronto Star report that accused the premier of ignoring the advice of the province's top doctors when he made Ontario's new colour-coded COVID-19 response plan.

After reading the news on Twitter, Perks, the councillor for Parkdale-High Park, said he was "furious" with the premier and his cabinet.

In an interview with Narcity, Perks said the province had "completely bungled" their pandemic response.

"Knowing that people are dying and that the province is deliberately not taking the best advice on what to do to solve that problem is — well, it creates a level of frustration that frankly turns into rage," Perks said.

Toronto's Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa recently announced that Toronto would be instituting its own, harsher restrictions on top of the province's "red zone" restrictions.

Perks told Narcity that when different officials are saying different things, it's no wonder that people are confused about how serious the pandemic is.

"When you have different governments operating on with different goals, it's bound to be incredibly confusing and dispiriting for the public," Perks said.

When asked about Perks' Twitter comments, the premier's office said they were not sure what Perk was talking about.
