Witness Says OPP Officer Was ‘Harassing’ Kid Pushed From Scooter (VIDEO)

Peel police have been asked to investigate.
Staff Writer

Peel police are investigating an incident after a video surfaced online that appeared to show an OPP officer shoving a young kid to the ground and taking his scooter away.*

The incident took place in Gravenhurst, Ontario, two hours north of Toronto, on Sunday, April 18, at a skate park that the OPP said is closed under the new provincial restrictions

In a statement, the OPP said officers stopped to speak to a group of kids who weren't wearing masks or distancing, and in the video, a police officer can be heard saying that the kid who was shoved wouldn't identify himself.

"[The kid] wasn't out of line, he was cooperating," said Brodie O'Hare, who witnessed the altercation and posted a video of it on Instagram. "There is almost next to nothing to justify harassing and assaulting a 12-year-old, especially being — well, you're supposed to be a role model."*

The OPP said they have asked Peel Regional Police to investigate the "physical confrontation" in order to "ensure transparency" and also said that the officer involved has been reassigned to administrative duties until the investigation is complete.
