Metrolinx announced on Thursday that customers can now tap their credit card or phone to pay for their fare on some PRESTO machines.

The pilot program, which began on March 11, allows commuters to tap with a Visa, Mastercard and American Express card.

Anyone who wishes to pay with their phone or watch will need to install Google Pay or Apple Pay.

Currently, the pilot is only being tested on the UP Express line. 

PRESTO reportedly plans to expand its open payment devices to other transit agencies in a "phased manner."
