As Ontario moves into step three on Friday, at least one community is now being told to avoid some of the reopening phase's biggest changes.

Grey Bruce Public Health Unit warned residents via a press release on Thursday that they should follow a list of modified rules due to concerns over the Delta variant.

While these harsher restrictions are currently only recommendations, the region warns that if case numbers continue to rise they could become mandatory.

Some recommendations include limiting outdoor gatherings to 25 people and indoor to five despite government regulations allowing for a maximum of 100 outside and 25 inside.

The modified plan also strongly recommends that people dine outdoors rather than indoors and that masks continue to be worn for personal care services.

The region continues to see a "significant number of COVID-19 cases," with 99% being the Delta variant, according to the release.

"It is noteworthy that a large number of current cases are in individuals that were not vaccinated or became infected as the result of gatherings where COVID-19 precautions were not followed. Public Health has the authority, and will bring charges against individuals hosting private events that are not in compliance with provincial regulations," an excerpt from the release reads.
