After 36 years, a Toronto murderer has been identified in the killing of 9-year-old Christine Jessop.

The announcement was made live by Interim Police Chief James Ramer and Staff Supt. Peter Code.

Chief Ramer told the public that on October 9, Toronto Police positively identified a DNA sample found on Jessop as that of Calvin Hoover, who was 29 at the time.

If he were alive today, Toronto Police would arrest Calvin Hoover for the murder of Christine Jessop.

On December 31, 1984, Jessop's body was found just over 50 kilometres from her home in Queensville.

She had been missing since October 3, 1984.

Investigators said she had been stabbed to death.

A neighbour of Jessop's, Guy Paul Morin, was wrongfully convicted of the crime, only to be released due to advancements in DNA technology in 1995.

Toronto Police have been investigating the case since 1984 and it was thought to have gone cold.
