Toronto's Wildly Futuristic New Tower Would Basically Be A 66-Storey Neighbourhood

You could live, work and shop without ever leaving this skyscraper.
Staff Writer

This newly-proposed Toronto tower could be one of the most futuristic-looking developments the city has seen yet.

55 Yonge, which hopes to spring up in the heart of downtown, would basically be its own vertical neighbourhood with 66 storeys of shops, offices, and apartments.

The developers are currently in the middle of a commercial-residential re-zoning application.

The tower would have almost 500 residential units — from bachelor suites to three-bedrooms — and over 16,000 square metres of office space.

55 Yonge

The developers say they're using a "cohesive and contemporary high-rise design" for the multi-use skyscraper, which would be located at Yonge and Colborne Street.

Currently, the lot is occupied by two office buildings which would need to be demolished in order for this tower to get built.

First pitched to city managers in November 2020, there's no planned date for construction — right now, 55 Yonge is actively looking for input from the public.
