Environment Canada Has Issued A Heat Warning For Toronto That Will Last Into Next Week

Torontonians, grab your sunscreen. Environment Canada just issued a heat warning for most of southern Ontario that is expected to stay in place until next week. Toronto's weather forecast is expected to feel as hot as 42 C. 

According to Environment Canada, the 6ix is in for "a prolonged period of hot weather." 

It is going to be so scorching that even the city's air quality could be at risk. 

While it is often an unspoken rule amongst Canadians to never complain about the heat, this might be an exception. 

On Thursday, it is going to be a sweltering 32 C outside, and it is going to feel like 39 C.

In fact, it is going to feel close to 40 C until Monday, so you’re going to want to apply sunscreen and drink lots of water.

The heatwave will most likely also carry into next week, Environment Canada warns.

The City of Toronto announced on Wednesday that it would be opening 15 emergency cooling centres which are scheduled to open at 11 a.m. today.

If you plan on heading outside, make sure to stay safe. Environment Canada has warned that poor air quality and extreme heat could affect your health. 

“Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index to approach the high-risk category,” reads a warning from Environment Canada.

“Extreme heat affects everyone. The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, and people working or exercising outdoors,” it adds.

The heatwave won’t be exclusive to Toronto. According to The Weather Network, most of southern Ontario is in for the “multi-day heat event” with high humidity and muggy conditions expected to sweep across the province.

However, TWN is also warning of the potential of some thunderstorms as well. 

“There will be the occasional thunderstorm chance in the coming days, but very little relief from a long stretch of heat and humidity for the province,” reads a TWN report.
