“Although the likelihood of getting a West Nile virus infection is low, there are simple precautions that residents can take to protect themselves and their family against mosquito bites when outdoors,” said Peel’s medical officer of health, Lawrence Loh, according to CP24.

According to the Government of Canada's website, wearing long pants outside, using insect repellants and getting rid of standing water around your home are all ways to help prevent the virus.

This isn't the first case that has been reported this week. Markham has also announced that they have discovered mosquitos with West Nile in their area.
