It's that time of year again. Toronto West Nile virus cases could be around the corner after a mosquito tested positive in Markham. 

According to York Region health officials, it was found in a trap located near Warden Avenue and Highway 7.

To date, one mosquito trap in the City of Markham has tested positive for West Nile virus.

Health officials encourage the public to take precautions to prevent bites from virus-positive mosquitoes, although the likelihood is rare. 

This means not letting still water sit around and investing in insect repellent, proper nets, and protecting yourself during feeding hour, which is at sunrise and sunset. 

Several mosquitoes carrying the virus were confirmed in southern Ontario just a few weeks ago, so it is best to take preventative measures.
