On Thursday, April 15, the Vancouver Aquarium announced that it is now owned by a U.S. corporation called Herschend Enterprises.

Herschend Enterprises also owns the Harlem Globetrotters, Dollywood, and a whole bunch of other attractions, many of which are themed around Dolly Parton.

"The agreement ensures that Vancouver will continue to have a world-class aquarium with the financial strength to continue building on its 64 years of success as an animal care and animal rescue facility, a cherished educational venue, and one of BC’s top tourist and event destinations," the Aquarium wrote in the news release.

They said that Herschend will be donating 1% of the aquarium's gross revenue to Ocean Wise to support ocean conservation.

The Vancouver Aquarium was formerly owned by the Ocean Wise Conservation Association before this new development. There is no word yet on when a re-opening may occur.
