This Ontario city is the 'waterfall capital of the world' and it's a magical winter wonderland

It's a road trip from Toronto.

Lead Writer, Travel

If chasing frosty waterfalls sounds like the perfect winter outing, you'll want to head to this Ontario city. With endless cascades and snow-filled trails, it's like stepping into a winter wonderland.

Located just over an hour from Toronto, the city is surrounded by stunning countryside and natural wonders, making it an idyllic spot to enjoy the outdoors.

According to its tourism website, the Hamilton region is home to over 100 cascades and is known as the "waterfall capital of the world" and the "city of waterfalls. "

During the winter, the waterfalls transform into frosty scenes that make you feel like you've stepped into Narnia.

There are several stunning cascades to explore throughout the area. Depending on when you visit, you may be able to see some of the waterfalls in frozen form.

Devil's Punchbowl is a unique cascade that tumbles into a round, basin-like gorge. The colourful rock layers along the face of the Escarpment are visible, adding an extra touch of magic to the scene.

The main lookout is just a 150-metre walk from the parking lot, so you don't have to go too far to enjoy the views.

Tiffany Falls is a stunning waterfall to check out during the winter. The 21-metre-high ribbon waterfall transforms into an icy masterpiece that looks like something out of Frozen.

You can even book an ice climbing experience at Tiffany Falls for a unique winter adventure.

Hamilton has a Waterfalls Guide that showcases some popular cascades in the area, making it easy to explore these breathtaking spots.

Other winter adventures in Hamilton include hiking along scenic trails, skating at West Harbour's Pier 8 skating rink, and snowshoeing at Dundas Valley.

Enjoy some frosty adventures in the waterfall capital of the world.
