On December 12 Arrowsmith Search and Rescue conducted one of the most challenging B.C. river rescues ever.

They rescued a man "whose life was in imminent danger" in the ice-cold and treacherous waters of Little Qualicum River. He was clinging to a log in the water.

According to CHEK News, the man was headed right for the waterfall and is lucky to be alive today.

He apparently fell over 20-meters into the water. Thanks to a high-risk, difficult rescue, the man was saved. Though, Nick Rivers, search manager with Arrowsmith SAR, told CHECK that it was a very stressful and dangerous situation.

Rivers lowered himself to the man, positioning himself downstream from where he was. He continually yelled "Don't move" at the man.

Though, the man lost his grip on the log and went rushing towards the waterfall.

“So, I jumped after him, swam and grabbed him. I just held on as tight as I could while the team up top hauled me into a safe part of the river on the rope system," Rivers told CHEK.

Eventually, the rescue crew was able to pull the two men up on the ropes and bring them to safety. The man was transported to the hospital via ambulance.
