Our father, Joe Marie, passed away on December 28, 2020 from Covid-19 complications. We are blessed and grateful to know that he has not only touched the lives of his close family and friends, but those of whom he had cared for and worked with as well. Frances Corral

According to 660 News, Corral was a healthcare aide at Bethany Riverview, a care centre for dementia patients in Calgary. He is the first health care worker in the province to die from COVID-19.

Bobby-Joe Borodey, vice-president of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees, told CBC News that Corral was a caring person who dedicated his life to helping others.

"That's why [people] go into the profession, because they care about others. And, you know, Joe is just one of those people that really wanted to give back and help other people," she said.

Corral was born in the Philippines and has one daughter and one son.

A GoFundMe has been started in support of his family and has already garnered thousands of dollars.

“The tragedy of this loss will be felt across the system, and by those who were cared for by this individual and their co-workers. Their service will not be forgotten," Shandro's statement concluded.
