A pilot for American Airlines had a once-in-a-lifetime encounter while performing a routine flight over northeast New Mexico.

On Sunday afternoon at around 2 p.m. EST, the pilot took to his radio to say something flew right over the top of his aircraft, describing it as a cylindrical object moving fast.

"Do you have any targets up here? We just had something go right over the top of us. I hate to say this but it looked like a long cylindrical object that almost looked like a cruise missile..." the pilot said during the radio transmission.

American Airlines has confirmed the transmission to be authentic, and they asked for anyone with any further questions to reach out to the FBI, making the situation just a little more suspicious.

The flight was able to continue on with its scheduled flight and land in Phoenix, Arizona.

One possible cause for the incident according to Fox News could be a missile test from the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, which is located near the southern border.

White Sands Missile Range did not respond to a comment request from Fox News.

Without any confirmation on what the object actually is, it remains an "unidentified flying object," better known as a UFO.
