When it comes to getaways in Ontario, Toronto is a popular choice thanks to its endless attractions, delicious restaurants and fun things to do. However, locals say there's another city you should have on your radar. With its unique charm and beauty, it might just be the perfect spot for your next day trip or staycation.

In a post on Narcity Canada's Facebook page, we asked readers what city in Ontario is worth visiting instead of Toronto, and this lakeside gem was one of the recommended spots.

North Bay is a city in Northeastern Ontario, about three and a half hours away from Toronto.

The community is nestled on the shores of Lake Nipissing and boasts rustic charm and beautiful surroundings.

According to the city's tourism website, it's a "captivating destination that offers a multitude of attractions and activities enticing visitors from near and far." During your visit, you can enjoy "pristine lakes, picturesque parks, and scenic trails."

The city boasts museums such as the Canadian Forces Museum of Aerospace Defence and the North Bay Museum, a theatre, a heritage railway and carousel, a farmers' market, a waterfall hike and more.

During the summer, you can enjoy sandy beaches such as Shabogesic Beach or hike along the Laurentian Escarpment for beautiful views.

The downtown area has heritage buildings, cozy restaurants, boutiques and more to enjoy. You can discover "alleyways that lead you to hidden gems" as you wander through the area.

With stunning lake views, sandy beaches, picturesque scenery, and a lively downtown, locals say North Bay is a must-visit alternative to Toronto.
